We celebrated another great season in 2007, welcoming 40 to 55 sailors each week of our sailing program. Our major fundraiser, the Auction & BBQ, attracted a most enthusiastic crowd and was very successful once again. Thank you to all who contributed to the event at the wonderful space provided by The Barn. We are happy to announce the Annual Auction & BBQ will take place on Saturday, July 19 once again at The Hubbards Barn!
Our work continues on the water quality issue that remains unchanged at this time. The dialogue is at the table with our Municipal, Provincial & Federal Governments as we work towards a short and long-term solution. We will continue operating our sailing program for the 2008 season with some interim modifications to ensure procedures are in place to decrease contact with potentially contaminated water. There are guidelines in place through the NSYA with regards to the sailing programs being offered in the Halifax region that we will be adhering to once again for our programs here in Hubbards Cove.
That being said, the 2008 Learn to Sail season will run from Monday, June 30 to Friday, August 22 for a total of 8 weeks. There will be a few changes to the Coach positions and management of the program – stay tuned for more information. The Annual BBQ and Auction will take place, as mentioned, on Saturday, July 19. This is our major fundraiser in support of the Junior Sailing Program and is always a very popular event. There are 2 tickets enclosed for the Auction this year and can be prepaid by sending a cheque along with the Membership Application to support future programs. Space is limited, so make sure to plan in advance.
We would also like to take this time to encourage you to contribute your time in any way possible to be a part of the growing interest of the Hubbards Yacht Club. Our Board members work diligently throughout the year to ensure the organization and details are in place to run our programs each summer. As we continue to grow, the need for more volunteers is also growing. We ask you to please take time to consider playing a role in the organization and thank you to all who have expressed interest. A calendar of events is enclosed for the coming months and we look forward to your participation.
